Jurgen Klopp says a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.

The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure featuring a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown since 1990, now holds positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance with the German Football League.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the possibility of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I won't manage any other side in England. Which implies in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”

“Being 58, so I could make the decision down the line, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”

What Would Lure Him Back?

When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he said. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews a week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. With many victories meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears as an instance.”

Commending Arne Slot

He spoke highly of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, though he denied the notion it could be a decline.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a player he signed while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a road accident with his brother recently.

“Who can fill the void of such an individual? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A profound tragedy for his teammates as well. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Unbearable.”
