The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad has only eight real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
